If your computer is an old hag you would know how irritating it can
be at times when you have to wait ages for it to startup or the frequent
crashes that follows, especially at times when you need it the most;
during exams, while finishing up an important presentation or when
updating some important financial software. Crashing and drop in speed
is proportional to the age of your computer. The older your computer
gets, the more it loses performance. However, this doesn’t assure that a
new computer cannot suffer for performance diminution. Performance
depends on a lot of factor and a proper optimization technique can help
your computer gain a significant speed, even if it is old.
Following are few guidelines that can help your computer come out of sluggishness and regain its former enthusiasm.
Check if your hardware is sufficient
One of the biggest reasons of a slow PC is insufficient hardware
components. It is very important that the hardware component should be
sufficient to run the operating system and other applications installed
on your computer. Ideally, your hardware configuration should be above
the minimum system requirement of OS and application software you want
to install, to make your computer perform smoothly. If your hardware is
not able to fulfill this need, then you should upgrade your hardware for
a placid performance.
Beware of Malwares
Malwares are the most hideous creature from which none of the live
computer is completely safe. Malware is actually a common name given to
all kinds of malicious programs that can cause some sort of harm to your
computer, like Virus, Adware, Spyware, Trojans, Worms, etc. Every
single computer on earth is vulnerable to virus attack. All these
malicious programs are capable of causing some sort of damage to your
computer or the data in it. The only way to keep these intrusive
viruses, spyware or adware off your computer is by constant scanning
using an efficient antivirus program and taking other precautions like
not clicking on unknown links, scanning external devices before opening
it, not visiting to suspicious sites etc.
Let go of useless apps
There must be many applications on your computer that you installed
long back but do not use it. These applications consumes a lot of space
and system memory and contributes in slowing your PC down, so lets give a
nice sweep to your computer, your computer totally needs it.
Uninstalling these applications will lighten your computer and as a
result, this will enhance performance.
Give your computer some space to breathe
It is very important to decrease congestion in your computer. There
are so many temporary files created every day. Just imagine if your
computer is 5 years old, how many temporary files would there be? There
are various tools to perform disk cleanup. These tools can identify what
files are safe to delete and what are not. You can use these tools to
delete temporary internet files, downloaded program files, optional
Windows component that are not useful for you, empty Recycle Bin, remove
shadow copies and un-used restore points.
Move on to new OS
If you are still stuck on the old versions of Operating System, it is
time to give your computer a new life. Go on for the latest version of
operating system. If you are Windows user, then go for Windows7 or
Windows8. These Operating Systems are much faster than the previous ones
and because of its new look and feel, you will definitely enjoy using
them. However, if you do plan to switch over to a new OS, make sure that
the system requirements are met properly otherwise you’ll end up
blaming the new OS for getting you into a worst condition.
